Maroons double up Royals; Morden downs Portage in SEMHL action

Portage and Carman each lost over the weekend in SEMHL action.

The league leading Carman Beavers suffered just their second regulation loss of the year this weekend in South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League action.

Winkler downed the visiting Beavers 12-6 Friday on home ice before falling to the Maroons 4-2 Sunday.

Michael St. Croix and Remi Laurencelle paced the Royals offence with seven points each in the victory.

Michael Sofillas’ two helpers combined with goals from Steve Doell, Haydon Friesen, Caleb Suderman and Sam Friesen helped the Maroons improve to 8-2-0 on the year.

Morden downed the visiting Portage Islanders 3-1 Saturday on home ice. Mike Rey and Tyler Peers each picked up a goal and an assist in the victory. Reed Peters was a difference maker between the pipes for Morden, turning aside 29 shots to collect the win.

Notre Dame and Warren also met Saturday and needed a shootout to decide a winner – the Hawks prevailed with a 4-3 win. Justin Dalebozik, Chris Prejet and Jeff Michiels each scored in regulation for Notre Dame.

The Beavers lead all teams with a 9-2-0-1 record, good enough for 19 points and a one point advantage over second place Warren (8-1-1-1). Altona is in third place (8-2-0-0) with 16 points followed by the Hawks (6-6-1) with 13 points, Winkler (4-7-2) with 10, the Islanders (4-7-1) have nine while Morden (3-9-1) isn’t far behind with seven.

Action resumes Thursday with Altona hosting Notre Dame and Morden hosting Warren, each game is set for 8 p.m. Winkler visits Portage Friday at 7:30 while Warren and Carman and Morden and Altona each square off Saturday night.
