Morden-Winkler MLA Cameron Friesen hosted his annual barbecue in Winkler, Sept. 7.
“It’s a great opportunity for my office to interact with the community,” he explained. “It’s always a good reminder to people that we have a constituency office in the Morden -Winkler constituency that is there to serve them.”
Although the barbecue is a casual affair, Friesen said people use it to touch base with their MLA.
“We find that people will come up to us, they will give us their contact information, they will address us on policy issues, they’ll tell us about challenges they’re having accessing services, and then we can connect them to services,” he said. “We can’t always give them an answer right away, but we can usually get them looking in the right direction.”
Friesen said the event was a success.
“We were really pleased to have hundreds and hundreds of people join us for lunch,” he said. “It was great to be joined by the Bunker once again providing our food services.”
And while the life of a cabinet minister is hectic, Friesen said it’s a good reminder of his primary role.
“It looks different now,” he admitted. “My time here is a little less frequent but my first responsibility is always as a member representing the communities of Morden-Winkler.”
