The third round of the The Manitoba Motocross Association spring season goes this Sun., May 11 at the challenging Shadow Valley Raceway course south of Morden.
The season got underway April 27 with the first round of the tour at Melita. This past Sunday, the riders were in Altona.
Peter and Jeremy Hoeppner and others have been working on the natural terrain course to get it ready for the event.
“We want to make improvements; all-weather lighting and a canopy over the starting area,” said Peter.
He noted they’ll be working on improving the facility leading up to a big weekend June 14-15. That round will also include the MMA provincials on June 14 - the seventh round of the provincial tour, and riders on the pro circuit will get a chance to ride the track on that day as well.
The following day, it will be round three of the pro-national tour. The day begins with qualifiers followed by races in the afternoon.
There are a number of classes involved in the MMA tour starting from 50cc and with riders as young as four to six years up to Vet Master. In between there are youth, junior, intermediate and pro classes.
Hoeppner was excited about having signed a three year contract to host the pro-nationals.
Hoeppner added he hoped conditions in 2008 would be much better than last year. Rain caused some treacherous conditions on the track during the 2007 meet.
“We were in a year to year situation before. Now we have been signed for three years,” he noted. “Riders and officials have said we have an awesome track here. Going in we were unknown. The riders really like the track now.
“There was a good fan turnout last year,” he said, adding, “There have also been articles in magazines about Shadow Valley.”
