Artspace: School choirs join forces
Posted 2 months ago
For the first time ever, the choirs of Parkland and J.R. Walkof schools in Winkler and Maple Leaf School in Morden are coming together for two massive Christmas concerts.
Over 200 Grade 3-5 students from the three schools will perform two joint performances at the P.W. Enns Centennial Concert Hall on Dec. 2.
"We have a lot of choirs in the area, but nothing really for young children," said J.R. Walkof music teacher Cecilia Gil.
"We thought this would be a great experience for the children to sing in one big choir."
It's also a chance for the young singers to see what it's like to take direction from different conductors, Gil said, and to perform in a professional venue.
"They're pretty excited about that," she said.
The entire group will sing several holiday songs together, and each choir will also perform a few songs on their own as well.
The shows run for about an hour at 2 p.m. and again at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $2 at the door with proceeds going to cover costs.
