“It’s pretty exciting news for our event and for all the competitors,” commented organizer Perry Hopkins on the news that the 2009 grand champion will get an automatic invitation to the Jack Daniel’s Invitational in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

There will be more than just bragging rights up for grabs when the grillers compete at the Corn and Apple Festival in Morden this summer.

As plans for the 2009 Manitoba Open Barbeque Championship move along, organizers said recently noted there will be a chance to test your talents down south up for grabs.

The 2009 grand champion will get an automatic invitation to the Jack Daniel’s Invitational in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

“It’s pretty exciting news for our event and for all the competitors,” commented organizer Perry Hopkins.

The grills and smokers will be fired up and ready to “Q” for the 3rd annual Manitoba Open championship August 21 and 22 at the Corn & Apple Festival.

Coming off the heels of our much improved second year, Hopkins said they are excited to present an event with cash and prizes in excess of $5,000.

In an effort to provide the best experience for all participants, the event will include:

• The Pacific Northwest Barbeque Association sanctioned barbeque competition - open to amateurs and professionals competing for points and prizes for the grand championship smoking event and a chance to compete at the Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue. Competitors supply the meat.

• “Chef’s Challenge” Competition - open to amateurs and professionals competing for cash and prizes. We provide the meat (to be announced). Grills or smokers can be used.

• Manitoba Open “Barbeque Ball” awards dinner featuring “southern style” cuisine with a dance and cash bar. Open to the public.

• Cooking demonstrations focusing on barbeque featuring local and international experts.

• Tradeshow – consisting of everything and anything related to barbeque.

• Barbeque vending – attendees will have the opportunity to purchase authentic lip-smacking barbeque from our hugely popular licenced “Up-South Restaurant”. A portion of the proceeds will support a charitable organization (to be announced).
